Shiraz oriental rug 205 x 305 cm

Shiraz rugs are named after a city at the foothills of the Zagros Mountains, and the rugs are woven in small towns and villages surrounding it. Local tribes, such as the Kashghai, also produce them. Shiraz carpets are known for their deep wine-red color, combined with dark blue and small white and green areas. The wool is soft and darker, sometimes mixed with goat hair. The patterns on the rugs are coarse and geometric, often identical to Kashghai patterns. Shiraz rugs may also be decorated with small geometric bird and animal patterns.
