Lori rugs are hand-knotted wool rugs with a distinctly tribal character, with designs that vary depending on their origin. Those from southern nomadic tribes feature strong contrasts, clear colours and bold motifs, often with prominent reds, while those associated with Khorramabad are squarer in format, more restrained in colour use and frequently display hole-pattern designs. They are made entirely of wool and have decorative fringes, with a knot density ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 knots per square metre.
